Amarula Ethiopian Coffee is the coffee version of the cream liqueur Amarula, made in South Africa from the fruit of the marula, a tree that grows wild in sub-Saharan Africa and is not cultivated. The brand was born as a marula spirit in 1983, created the cream liqueur in 1989 and launched Amarula Cream in Brazil in 1994; the coffee flavor came out between 2019 and 2023.

The fruit is hand-picked by local communities, fermented, distilled and matured for two years in oak barrels; the spirit is then blended with fresh cream. This version adds single-origin Arabica coffee from Ethiopia. The Brazilian label also lists dairy cream, sugar and wine spirit.
