Amstel is an all-malt lager of Dutch origin that now belongs to the Heineken Group. The brewery was created in Amsterdam in 1870 by Charles de Pesters and Johannes van Marwijk Kooy, and the name honors the Amstel river, which runs through the city.

In Brazil, Heineken began producing Amstel in 2014, first as draft and then in bottles and cans, following the group's international standards. The recipe is all-malt: the Brazilian label lists only water, malt and hops, with no unmalted grains or additives.
