Aperol
by Aperol · Liqueur · Italy
Aperol is an Italian bitter aperitif created in 1919 by brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri, in Padua, after seven years of trials at the liqueur company they inherited from their father, Giuseppe, in 1912. The brand belonged to Barbero 1891 when the Campari Group announced its purchase, in December 2003. The Aperol sold in Brazil is produced at Campari's plant in Suape, Pernambuco.
According to the brand, the recipe has not changed since its creation: it is an infusion of herbs and roots whose full formula is not disclosed, with gentian, rhubarb and cinchona among the ingredients mentioned. For the Aperol Spritz, the producer recommends the 3-2-1 rule: 90 ml of prosecco, 60 ml of Aperol and 30 ml of sparkling water, in a large wine glass filled with ice and with a slice of orange.
