Ardbeg 10 Years
by Ardbeg · Whisky · Scotland
Ardbeg 10 Years is a single malt Scotch from the Ardbeg distillery, on the south coast of the island of Islay. The distillery was founded in 1815 by John MacDougall, whose family controlled it until 1959. After standing idle in 1996, it was bought in 1997 by Glenmorangie, which has belonged to the LVMH group since 2004.
It is made from malted barley dried with peat smoke. On the spirit still, a purifier fitted to the lyne arm sends part of the vapors back to be distilled again. The whisky matures for at least ten years in casks that previously held bourbon and is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration.
