Carpano Rosso
by Carpano · Liqueur · Italy
Carpano Rosso, also called Carpano Classico, is the red vermouth from the house Antonio Benedetto Carpano opened in Turin in 1786, the year in which, according to the brand, he created the formula that gave rise to the category by combining herbs and spices with moscato. The brand now belongs to Fratelli Branca Distillerie, of Milan.
The botanicals, among them vanilla, saffron, bitter orange, cinnamon and wormwood, go through decoction in wine, maceration in alcohol for three to five months and infusion, according to Fratelli Branca; the color comes from burnt sugar. The 950 ml bottle sold in Brazil is produced in Argentina by Fratelli Branca Destilerías. The house recommends serving it cold and neat or in drinks such as the Negroni.
