Cartuxa EA Tinto
by Cartuxa · Wine · Alentejo, Portugal
EA is the everyday red from Adega Cartuxa, in Évora, in the Alentejo, first made in 1992. The winery belongs to the Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, an institution created in 1963 by Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida, who also rebuilt the Cartuxa de Santa Maria Scala Coeli monastery. The winery also makes the Cartuxa and Pêra-Manca labels.
It is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira and Syrah from the foundation's own vineyards, on granite soils. The grapes are fully destemmed and lightly crushed, and fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at 24 °C to 27 °C; filtration, blending and tartaric stabilization follow before bottling. The winery recommends serving it at 16 °C to 18 °C.
