Casa Valduga 130 Brut
by Casa Valduga · Sparkling wine · Vale dos Vinhedos, Brazil
Casa Valduga 130 Brut is the traditional-method sparkling wine that Casa Valduga, of the Vale dos Vinhedos, in Bento Gonçalves (RS), launched in 2005 to mark 130 years since the Valduga family's arrival in Brazil, in 1875. The wine gave rise to a line that gained Blanc de Blanc and Blanc de Noir versions in 2016 and a Brut Rosé in 2018.
It is a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from the Vale dos Vinhedos; 8% of the volume, Chardonnay only, ages for 12 months in oak. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, at 12 °C, and the wine spends 36 months in autolysis on the lees, in a cellar at 16 °C, before riddling on pupitres and disgorgement. The house's lab report gives 8.69 g/L of sugars; the recommended serving temperature is between 6 °C and 8 °C.
