Casillero del Diablo Reserva Merlot
by Concha y Toro · Wine · Central Valley, Chile
Casillero del Diablo Reserva Merlot is the Merlot red from the Casillero del Diablo line, created in 1966 by Concha y Toro, a Chilean house founded in 1883. The label repeats the story that gave the brand its name: Don Melchor Concha y Toro set aside a batch of his wines for himself and, to keep strangers away from the cellar, spread the rumour that the devil lived there.
The Merlot grapes come from the Central Valley, from alluvial, rocky, stony and hillside soils with granitic subsoil, in a Mediterranean climate influenced by the Andes. The winery recommends serving it between 18 and 20 °C, with pasta, risottos, lightly seasoned red meats, soft cheeses and Mexican food.
