Château Margaux 2018
by Château Margaux · Wine · France
Château Margaux 2018 is the red Grand Vin of Château Margaux, an estate in the Margaux appellation in the Médoc, about 30 km from Bordeaux. The château has been a Premier Grand Cru Classé since the 1855 classification and has belonged to the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977, the year André Mentzelopoulos bought the estate.
The 2018 blend brings together 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and accounts for 36% of the harvest; the red grapes were picked from 17 September to 13 October. In a year the house describes as the hottest since the start of the 20th century, extraction during vinification was moderate. According to the château, the Grand Vin ages for an average of 21 months in new French oak barrels.
