Citadelle Original
by Citadelle · Gin · Cognac, France
Citadelle Original is the gin from Maison Ferrand, a cognac house that launched it in 1996 as a pioneer of craft gin in France. It is produced at the Château de Bonbonnet, in Ars, near Cognac, and the label bears the signature of master distiller Alexandre Gabriel. The brand has won more than a hundred medals.
It uses 19 botanicals, among them juniper, orange and lemon peel, violet, cardamom, cubeb pepper, Sichuan pepper, coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon and orris root. They are infused gradually, each with its own maceration time and strength, and then distilled. The house recommends it in a gin and tonic with lemon zest, alongside oysters.
