Cointreau Noir
by Cointreau · Liqueur · Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France
Cointreau Noir is a liqueur from Maison Cointreau, a house founded in 1849 by the brothers Adolphe and Édouard-Jean Cointreau in Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou, France, and part of the Rémy Cointreau group since 1990. It revives Cointreau Majestic, a drink Édouard Cointreau created in 1903 by combining the house's orange liqueur with cognac; the recipe was rediscovered in the family archives in 2008.
The current version, revised in 2024 by master distiller Carole Quinton with Rémy Martin's cellar master, Baptiste Loiseau, contains 79% Cointreau and 21% Rémy Martin cognac. It is bottled at 40%, in a 700 ml bottle, and the house suggests drinking it neat or over ice, or using it in cocktails.
