Cutty Sark is a blended Scotch whisky launched on 23 March 1923 by Berry Bros. & Rudd, a London wine and spirits merchant.
The name comes from a clipper ship built on the River Clyde, which in turn took its name from a poem by Robert Burns; the drawing of the ship on the label, used since 1955, is by the Swedish painter Carl Georg August Wallin. Today the brand belongs to the French company La Martiniquaise.
Original is the house's entry-level blend, made with Scotch single malts and grain whiskies under master blender Stephen Woodcock, with no age statement. The brand presents it as a whisky born to be mixed and recommends a highball with ginger ale, lemon-lime soda, cola or iced tea.
