Cynar
by Cynar · Liqueur · Italy
Cynar is the bitter artichoke aperitif launched in Italy in 1952 and made and distributed by the Campari group since 1995. The name comes from Cynara scolymus, the scientific name of the artichoke, the plant that appears on the label. In Brazil, the 900 ml bottle is produced in the country and comes at 20% alcohol, above the 16.5% of the Italian version.
The recipe uses 13 herbs and plants, with artichoke predominating. On the Brazilian label, the ingredients are water, sugar, ethyl alcohol, an infusion of artichoke leaves and herbs, caramel coloring and an acidulant. In Italy, the brand promotes the Cynar Spritz: three parts prosecco, two parts Cynar and one part soda, in a glass with ice and an orange slice.
