Dewar's 12 Anos is a blended Scotch whisky from John Dewar & Sons, a house created by John Dewar in 1846 and sold by Diageo to Bacardi in 1998. The 12-year-old expression was developed by Tom Aitken, the brand's sixth master blender, and in Brazilian retail it also appears under the name The Ancestor.
It brings together up to 30 malt and grain whiskies, including aged reserves from the house's own distilleries. It goes through the two-stage aging typical of Dewar's, in which the whiskies are married and returned to oak to continue aging together, and finishes in first-fill bourbon barrels. The brand recommends it for the Highball and the Boulevardier.
