This is the signature rum from Diplomático, a Venezuelan brand whose name honors the mantuanos, 19th-century noblemen who traveled trading the region's products; from them came the character Don Juancho, portrayed on the label. The brand joined the portfolio of the American company Brown-Forman in 2022.
The cane is grown in Venezuela and turned into molasses, which is fermented for at least 24 hours. The distillery combines pot still, batch kettle and column, and ages the rums mainly in casks that held bourbon and other whiskies before blending them. It is bottled at 40%, and the house suggests drinking it neat or in cocktails such as the Old Fashioned and the Manhattan.
