Duvel is a top-fermented Belgian beer, refermented in the bottle, made by Duvel Moortgat in Puurs. The brewery was founded in 1871 by Jan-Leonard Moortgat. After the First World War, his son Albert brought the recipe's yeast from Scotland, and the beer was launched as Victory Ale; in the 1920s it took the name Duvel, which means devil in the Brabant dialect.

It is made with spring water, barley malt and Saaz and Styrian Golding hops. It ferments in tanks between 20 °C and 26 °C, matures at -2 °C and, with the addition of sugar and yeast, referments in the bottle for two weeks at 24 °C, followed by six weeks in a cold cellar. It has an ABV of 8.5%; the brewery recommends serving it at 5 °C, in the Duvel glass.
