El Enemigo Malbec
by El Enemigo · Wine · Gualtallary, Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina
El Enemigo Malbec is the Malbec red from the El Enemigo line of Bodega Aleanna, in Mendoza, Argentina. The project is a partnership between Adrianna Catena, youngest daughter of Nicolás Catena Zapata, and winemaker Alejandro Vigil, who headed INTA's soils division before joining Catena Zapata in 2002. The house motto says that, at the end of the journey, all one remembers is the battle against oneself, the original enemy.
The 2023 vintage blend is 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc from Gualtallary, in Tupungato, at 1,470 meters, on stony limestone soil. It ferments with native yeasts at a maximum of 29 °C for 20 days and ages for 15 months: half in large casks (foudres), a quarter in barrels and the rest in concrete. The importer recommends serving it between 15 and 17 °C.
