Erdinger Pikantus
by Erdinger · Beer · Erding, Bavaria, Germany
Erdinger Pikantus is the weizenbock from Erdinger Weißbräu, a brewery in Erding, Bavaria. The house was born in 1886 as Weisse Bräuhaus, was bought by Franz Brombach in 1935 and became Erdinger Weißbräu in 1949; it remains with the Brombach family and calls itself the largest family-owned German wheat beer brewery.
It is a strong, dark, top-fermented wheat beer, made according to the German Purity Law with well water, wheat and barley malts, roasted barley malt, noble hops and the brewery's own yeast. It has 7.3% alcohol and an original gravity of 16.7 °P. Erdinger suggests sharing a bottle between two dedicated Pikantus glasses, or large wine glasses, as an aperitif.
