Evan Williams Black Label is the flagship bourbon of the Evan Williams brand, launched in 1957 by Heaven Hill, a family company in Bardstown, Kentucky. The name honors the Welsh immigrant Evan Williams, who according to the brand opened Kentucky's first distillery in 1783, on the banks of the Ohio River; the historian Michael Veach disputes that date. Heaven Hill presents it as the second best-selling Kentucky Straight Bourbon.
It is distilled at Heaven Hill's distillery in Louisville and bottled in Bardstown. It ages for at least four years, longer than the law requires, and comes in at 43% (86 proof). The brand suggests serving it in a highball.
