Gekkeikan Black & Gold
by Gekkeikan · Sake · Folsom, California (USA), Japan
Gekkeikan Black & Gold is a tokubetsu junmai sake from the American subsidiary of Gekkeikan, a house founded in 1637 in Fushimi, Kyoto. It is made in Folsom, California, where Gekkeikan Sake (USA) has operated since 1989. In 2024 it was the only sake from outside Japan to win the Grand Gold at Japan's National Warm Sake Contest, a competition for warmed sake.
It is a blend of the house's Traditional with lots of higher-grade sakes from the same brewery, assembled by the master brewer. It contains no sulphites, comes in at 14.6% alcohol and is sold in the black 750 ml bottle with the house's name in gold. Gekkeikan suggests serving it chilled, at room temperature or warm.
