Heineken Lager
by Heineken · Beer · Netherlands
Heineken is a Dutch all-malt lager, the flagship of the group that bears the same name. The story begins in 1864, when Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought the De Hooiberg brewery in Amsterdam; the first beer under the Heineken brand was made in 1873, and in 1886 the company's laboratory developed the A-yeast, still used today.
In Brazil, it is brewed at Heineken Group breweries, such as the one in Ponta Grossa (PR), with water, barley malt, hops and the A-yeast. Maturation takes place in horizontal tanks used only for the brand, at a temperature close to zero degrees. The producer states an ABV of 5%.
