Johnnie Walker Red Label
by Johnnie Walker · Whisky · Scotland
Johnnie Walker Red Label is a blended Scotch whisky from Johnnie Walker, a Scottish brand now owned by Diageo. The Walker family started in the trade in 1820, with John Walker's grocery store in Kilmarnock. The blend was created by his grandsons George and Alexander Walker II as Special Old Highland and renamed Red Label in 1909, the year the striding man, drawn by Tom Browne, appeared.
The recipe combines up to 35 malt and grain whiskies, among them those of the Cardhu, Caol Ila, Teaninich and Cameronbridge distilleries, and carries no age statement on the label. The label is slanted at 24 degrees, a design used by the brand since 1860. Diageo Brasil recommends the whisky for long drinks such as the Red Highball.
