Kaiken Estate Malbec
by Kaiken · Wine · Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina
Kaiken Estate Malbec is the Malbec from the Estate line, the entry-level range of Kaiken, a winery in Mendoza, Argentina, created by Chilean winemaker Aurelio Montes. According to Viña Montes' timeline, Bodega Kaiken was founded in 2002 as its Argentine subsidiary; the name comes from the caiquén, a wild Patagonian goose that crosses the Andes between the two countries.
It is 100% Malbec from vineyards in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, at 950 meters, picked by hand. After a cold maceration, it ferments in concrete tanks; in the 2024 vintage, 35% of the wine spent eight months in French oak barrels and the rest had no contact with wood. The producer recommends serving it between 15 and 17 °C, without decanting.
