Malibu Original

Malibu is a white rum liqueur with coconut flavor, created in 1978 by Tom Jago, of the British company International Distillers & Vintners, under the name Coco Rico; the Malibu brand was launched in 1980, designed to make piña coladas easier to prepare. It has belonged to Pernod Ricard since 2005, when the group bought Allied Domecq.
For many years the white rum in the recipe came from a seaside distillery in Barbados; today Malibu is blended and produced mainly in Canada, with part in the US and Spain. The rum is distilled from a syrup from cane refining, and the drink contains neither milk nor coconut cream. The house suggests mixing it with pineapple juice or using it in the piña colada and the Bay Breeze.
