Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere
by Concha y Toro · Wine · Cachapoal Valley, Chile
Marques de Casa Concha Carmenere is the Carmenère red of the Marques de Casa Concha line from the Chilean winery Concha y Toro, which debuted in 1976. The name recalls the noble title granted in 1718 by King Philip V of Spain to José de Santiago Concha y Salvatierra; Don Melchor Concha y Toro, the winery's founder, was the seventh Marqués de Casa Concha.
The grapes come from the Peumo vineyard in the Cachapoal Valley, about 100 km south of Santiago, on deep alluvial soils of clay and silt influenced by the Cachapoal River and Rapel Lake. The blend is 91.5% Carmenère, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.5% Merlot, at 14% alcohol. The winery recommends serving it with red meats, aged cheeses and Chilean dishes.
