Martini Extra Dry
by Martini · Liqueur · Brazil, Italy
Martini Extra Dry is the dry vermouth from Martini & Rossi, a house founded in 1863 in Pessione, near Turin, and now part of the Bacardi group. Luigi Rossi's sons began developing the recipe in 1890, and it reached the market on New Year's Day 1900, according to Difford's Guide; the brand links it to the Dry Martini cocktail.
In the Italian recipe, barks and woods are macerated and distilled, and raspberry and lemon distillates and orris root are added. The version sold in Brazil is made in the country with white table wine, natural plant extract, sugar and alcohol, and the Brazilian label mentions more than 40 botanical species. The house suggests the Gin Martini: one part Extra Dry to three parts gin, stirred with ice.
