Matte Leão is the yerba mate tea brand of the former Leão Junior S.A., a company founded in 1901 in Ponta Grossa (PR) and moved to Curitiba after a fire in 1912. The toasted tea took the name Matte Leão in 1938. In 2007 Coca-Cola Brasil bought the brand and the company, and moved the factory to Fazenda Rio Grande, in the Curitiba metropolitan area.
The zero version is a ready-to-drink mate tea made with water and an aqueous mate extract, obtained from toasted yerba mate leaves. It contains no sugar: it is sweetened with saccharin, sucralose and acesulfame potassium and has phosphoric and citric acids as acidulants. The bottler Coca-Cola Andina sells it in 300 ml and 1.5 liter PET bottles.
