Moët Impérial Brut
by Moët & Chandon · Sparkling wine · Champagne, France
Moët Impérial Brut is the non-vintage brut champagne from Moët & Chandon, a house in Épernay, Champagne, founded in 1743 by Claude Moët. Created in 1869, the cuvée owes its name to Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the house's properties in Épernay several times and awarded the Légion d'honneur to Jean-Rémy Moët, the founder's grandson.
The blend combines Pinot Noir (30–40%), Meunier (30–40%) and Chardonnay (20–30%) and brings together more than 100 wines from nearly 280 crus, of which 20% to 30% are reserve wines. Like all Champagne, it undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle itself; the dosage is 7 g/l. The house recommends serving it with raw dishes, such as sushi and sashimi, and with seafood such as oysters and sea urchins.
