Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is the red with which Viña Montes began: the first vintage was grown in 1987 by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, and the winery was founded the following year, still under the name Discover Wines. The first shipment of Montes Alpha went to the United States. The house's winery is in Apalta, in the Colchagua Valley.

The grapes come from the winery's estates in Apalta and Marchigüe and are picked by hand. The 2023 vintage blend is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot; after malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and concrete tanks, the wine ages for 12 months in French oak barrels, half of them new. The winery recommends decanting for 30 minutes and serving between 15 and 17 °C.
