Norton Reserva Malbec
by Norton · Wine · Mendoza, Argentina
Norton Reserva Malbec is the Malbec from the Reserva line of Bodega Norton, in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. The house was founded in 1895 by Edmund James Palmer Norton, an engineer who came to Argentina to build the Andes railway, and has belonged since 1989 to the family of the Austrian Gernot Langes-Swarovski. In 1973, it exported to the US the first Argentine Malbec sold outside the country.
The house calls it a blend of terroirs: it combines Malbec from Luján de Cuyo and the Valle de Uco. Harvesting is by hand, with optical sorting of the berries; after three days of cold maceration, it ferments for ten days and stays on the skins for up to 30 days.
It spends 12 months in second- and third-use French oak barrels and 6 months in bottle. The chief winemaker is David Bonomi.
