Porca de Murça Tinto
by Porca de Murça · Wine · Douro, Portugal
Porca de Murça is the Douro wine brand of Real Companhia Velha, created in 1928 and presented by the house as the region's leader. The name comes from a legend of the village of Murça, in the Alto Douro: a wild sow that ravaged crops and attacked animals was killed in a great hunt, and the villagers erected a statue of the animal in the village center.
The red is a classic Douro blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, with grapes from vines at high and low elevations on the slopes. Each variety ferments separately in stainless steel vats, where the wine ages for six months, without wood. Real Companhia Velha recommends drinking it young, served between 16 °C and 18 °C, with roast veal, bacalhau à Brás and parmesan.
