Saint James Impérial Blanc
by Saint James · Rum · Martinique, France
Saint James Impérial Blanc is the white rhum agricole from Saint James, a house in Martinique, a French territory in the Caribbean. The brand traces its history back to 1765, when the first rums from the Trou Vaillant estate were exported to North America under that name; between 1882 and 1885, Paulin Lambert bought the estate, registered the brand and adopted the square bottle. Cointreau bought it in 1973 and La Martiniquaise in 2003.
It is distilled from fresh sugarcane juice, not molasses, in Sainte-Marie, in the northeast of the island, and carries the AOC Martinique designation, obtained by the island's rhum agricole in 1996. It is bottled at 40%, in 35 cl, 70 cl and 1-liter bottles. The house places it among its rums for cocktails, such as the Mojito Passion.
