Santa Julia Malbec
by Santa Julia · Wine · Mendoza, Argentina
Santa Julia Malbec is the Malbec from the varietal line of Bodega Santa Julia, a winery in Maipú, Mendoza, owned by the Zuccardi family. The story begins with engineer Alberto Zuccardi, who in the 1950s was testing irrigation systems in Mendoza and in 1963 planted a vineyard in Maipú to demonstrate them; in 1999, the house certified its first organic vineyards.
It is 100% Malbec from hand-picked Mendoza grapes. The winemaking is classic, with selected yeasts and a 10-day maceration, and the official technical sheet makes no mention of time in wood. According to the winery, the varietal line brings together young wines, made to show the character of each grape.
