Lemon soft drink from The Coca-Cola Company. The drink appeared in West Germany in 1959 under the name Fanta Klare Zitrone and was launched in the United States as Sprite in 1961; the name drew on a trademark Coca-Cola had already registered, linked to the Sprite Boy character. In Brazil, Sprite arrived in 1984, replacing Fanta Limão.
In the Brazilian version, sold as Sprite Original, the ingredient list includes carbonated water, sugar, concentrated lemon juice, natural flavoring, citric acid as acidulant and sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate as preservatives. Coca-Cola Brasil gives 81 kcal and 20 g of sugars per 200 ml serving. The brand also has Sprite Sem Açúcar and Sprite Lemon Fresh versions.
