Star of Bombay

Star of Bombay

by Bombay Sapphire · Gin · Hampshire (England), United Kingdom

Star of Bombay is a London Dry Gin from Bombay Sapphire, a brand launched in 1986 and sold by Diageo to Bacardi in 1997. It was created in 2015 for the British market and later taken to other countries. The name comes from the Star of Bombay, a 182-carat star sapphire from Sri Lanka that the actor Douglas Fairbanks gave to his wife, the actress Mary Pickford.

It uses the eight botanicals of Bombay Original Dry (juniper, coriander, lemon peel, orris root, angelica, almond, liquorice and cassia), in different proportions, plus bergamot peel from Calabria and ambrette seeds from Ecuador. The vapor infusion in the Dakin stills is slower, about 9.5 hours versus 6.5, and the gin is bottled at 47.5%.
