The Glenlivet 15 Year Old is a single malt Scotch from The Glenlivet distillery in Speyside, Scotland. The label carries the year the house was founded, 1824, the signature and portrait of George Smith, and the subtitle French Oak Reserve. According to the distillery, it was one of the first to use Limousin oak, a wood more associated with cognac, to mature whisky.
The spirit is aged for at least 15 years, and a portion of it is finished in Limousin French oak casks; the house controls the time in these casks so that the wood does not overwhelm the spirit. It is bottled at 40% alcohol, and the distillery suggests serving it neat, with a splash of water or soda, or in cocktails such as the Valley of the Bees.
