Undurraga U Carménère
by Undurraga · Wine · Central Valley, Chile
Undurraga U Carménère is the Carménère red of the U de Undurraga line, the varietal range of Viña Undurraga. The winery was founded in 1885 in Talagante, near Santiago, Chile, by Francisco Undurraga Vicuña, and says it was the first in the country to export wine to the United States, in 1903.
The grapes come from the Valle Central and are harvested in 500 kg bins; the blend is 85% Carménère and 15% Syrah. The wine spends 2 to 5 months in stainless steel tanks and is 14% alcohol. The technical sheet is signed by winemaker Patricio Lucero, who recommends serving it between 16 °C and 18 °C, with pasta, risottos and lamb.
