The Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve
by Suntory · Whisky · Osaka, Japan
The Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve is a no-age-statement single malt from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery, on the outskirts of Osaka, Japan. The distillery was opened in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii and is the oldest malt distillery in the country, a fact printed on the label. Suntory launched this version in spring 2014, as one of its two Distiller's Reserve whiskies.
The recipe combines whiskies matured in three kinds of cask: casks that held Bordeaux red wine, sherry casks and Japanese Mizunara oak casks. Because it blends spirits of different ages, it carries no age on the label. It is bottled at 43% alcohol and reaches Brazil imported from Japan, in a 700 ml bottle.
