Festejo Carioca da Cerveja takes over Rua da Carioca from October 31 to November 2 to sell the draft beer meant for the Mondial de la Bière
The draft beer prepared for Rio de Janeiro's Mondial de la Bière, postponed to 2027 nine days before opening, will find drinkers after all. Breweries, bars and restaurants have set up, with Rio's city government, the Festejo Carioca da Cerveja, a free festival on Rua da Carioca, in the city center, from Saturday, October 31, to Monday, November 2, the All Souls' Day holiday, Guia da Cerveja reported on Monday, October 26.
The Mondial was scheduled for October 29 to November 1 and was postponed to the first half of 2027; the organizers cited operational complications, without giving details. According to Guia da Cerveja, more than 40 breweries had prepared beer for the event, much of it as draft, which is not pasteurized and would not last until the new date. The festival was organized in less than a week.
The festival runs from noon to 8 p.m., with the street closed to traffic, a stage with live music and free admission. Only breweries that had contracts with the Mondial may exhibit, all with tents of the same size; they pay nothing for the space and do not share their sales. The exhibitor list was still being finalized and will be posted on the festival's Instagram. The city pays for the structure and operations, such as traffic, cleaning and security, and waives licensing fees. Space is planned for about ten small producers of bread, cheese and sweets.
The curator is sommelier and international beer judge Aline Ferreira, and production is run by Raphael Vidal, owner of Choperia Cotovelo, which is on the street itself.
The idea is not to replace it, but to add, so that in 2027 we have both events happening in the cityRaphael Vidal, to Guia da Cerveja
The location was no accident. The city is turning Rua da Carioca into a beer hub under its Reviver Centro program, with subsidies of up to R$ 1,000 per square meter for renovations and R$ 75 per square meter a month for expenses; the first brewery opened in September 2024, according to Rio's city government. City councilor Flávio Valle has proposed adding the festival to the city's official calendar, with one edition a year, according to Guia. See the beers in Bebidário's catalog.
