Monster Energy Original, the one in the green can, is the energy drink that gave rise to the Monster brand, launched in 2002 by Hansen Natural. The company, founded in California in 1935 by Hubert Hansen and his sons to sell juices, was renamed Monster Beverage Corporation in 2012 and is headquartered in Corona. In 2015, The Coca-Cola Company bought 16.7% of Monster in a strategic partnership.
The formula is based on caffeine and taurine. On the brand's Brazilian page, the 473 ml can has 156 mg of caffeine, 40 g of total sugars and 170 kcal; the 269 ml can, launched later for the Brazilian market, has 89 mg of caffeine. The line also includes the Zero Sugar and Absolutely Zero versions.
