Havana Club has released Icónica Unión in the markets where it operates, an extra-aged Cuban rum that completes the Icónica collection, the brand's most expensive range. According to The Spirits Business, the rum is bottled at 40% ABV with a suggested price of 350 euros. Global Drinks Intel, which listed the rum among the launches for the week of September 28 to October 2, reports that production is limited, with no bottle count disclosed, and that Unión is the sixth and final label in the series.

Four rums and a second cask

Unión carries no age statement. The recipe combines four aged rums from the distillery's reserves, which mature in Cuba's tropical climate. A portion of the rum is then re-aged and blended in another cask before the final blend and bottling. Global Drinks Intel describes the process as the continuous ageing method the brand uses.

According to the brand's description reproduced by The Spirits Business, the rum opens with caramel, honey and dried fruit and moves on to toasted wood, citrus peel and a touch of tobacco. The bottle is the collection's decanter, with an hourglass design and gold details, and the box is made entirely of cardboard. The magazine reports that the rum won a gold medal at The Luxury Spirits Masters 2026.

A rum designed for cigars

The name is not new. In March 2015, Havana Club launched Unión as the first Cuban rum made to pair with cigars, according to Drinks International. The blend was created by the house's maestro ronero, Asbel Morales, with cigar sommelier Fernando Fernández, and the recommended pairing was the Cohiba Siglo VI. Morales drew inspiration from the way tobacco leaves are aged and blended.

Today, besides Unión, the Icónica collection includes Don Navarro, Gran Reserva 15 Años, Máximo Extra Añejo, Selección de Maestros and Tributo 2025, according to The Spirits Business. The sources do not say whether the new label will be sold in Brazil. The Bebidário catalog includes the brand's core rums, Havana Club Añejo 3 Años and Havana Club Añejo 7 Años.
