The limited-edition blend, finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, pays tribute to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the brand's polo series
Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Desert Jewel Polo Edition has arrived in Brazil with a suggested price of R$ 1,774.90, according to GPS Brasília. The limited-edition Scotch blend is the eighth chapter of the Polo Collection, the brand's series inspired by polo destinations, and this time pays tribute to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
Its arrival in the country was marked by a pre-launch event for Le Cercle clients who bought the bottle in the pre-sale. Abroad, the whisky debuted in Taiwan on October 20 and is reaching specialist retailers in other countries in limited quantities, from US$ 190, according to The Luxury Editor.
The blend was created by Sandy Hyslop, Royal Salute's master blender emeritus, and was fully finished in casks that held Pedro Ximénez sherry, the sweetest and richest of the Jerez styles, made from grapes left in the sun until they are almost raisins. According to the brand, the cask gives the whisky a spiced character that recalls Arabic cuisine.
The official notes cite, on the nose, cranberry, glazed cherry, stewed apple, cinnamon bun, almond praline and nutmeg. On the palate, mango, blood orange, dates, treacle tart, marzipan and orange zest, followed by ginger, pink peppercorn and oak spice, with a velvety finish in which the ginger lingers.
The bottle is turquoise, a nod to the waters around the two cities, and comes in a box illustrated with dunes, traditional markets and the towers of the Gulf skyline.
Royal Salute was created in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and its name refers to the 21-gun royal salute. The brand's tradition is to present only blends aged at least 21 years. The Polo Collection has already had editions inspired by Miami, by Jodhpur, in India, and by Rio de Janeiro, among others.
