Brahma Chopp is the main beer of the Brahma brand, from Ambev. The brewery was founded in 1888 in Rio de Janeiro by Joseph Villiger, under the name Manufactura de Cerveja Brahma Villiger & Companhia. The name Brahma Chopp appeared during the 1934 carnival, when the company began selling in bottles the beer it had previously served as draft (chope); in 1999 Brahma merged with Antarctica to form Ambev.

Ambev classifies it as an American Lager and brews it in Brazil with water, malt, maize and hops. The manufacturer says it uses malts from its own maltings and that it took 13 years to develop its own barley. The stated ABV is 4.8%.
