The 41st Oktoberfest in Blumenau opens on Wednesday, October 7, at Parque Vila Germânica, and runs until the 25th, over 19 days of festivities, according to the event's official website and NSC Total. The official beer is Spaten, which also gives its name to an area of reserved tables, the Spaten Tisch, facing the stage in sector 2.
This year's main debut is the Festzelt, a 2,200-square-meter mobile pavilion run by the Brazilian arm of Hofbräuhaus, the Munich brewery founded in 1589. The concept mimics the tents of the German festival: traditional food on porcelain plates, metal cutlery and draft beer served in glass steins, according to NSC Total. The park gained 5,000 square meters of extra space, and the Galegão returns with strict capacity control.
Entry is free on October 7, 8, 13, 19, 20 and 25. On the other days, tickets range from R$ 24 (R$ 12 half price) on weekday evenings to R$ 80 (R$ 40 half price) on Saturdays, according to NSC Total and Guia da Cerveja. Children up to 12 accompanied by a guardian get in free, the official website says. Inside, there are about 130 draft beer styles; specialty beers cost R$ 19 for a 400 ml glass and R$ 33 for 700 ml, alcohol-free draft costs R$ 15 and gluten-free R$ 16.
The park opens at 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends. Closing time ranges from 1 a.m., Sunday to Tuesday, to 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The program includes eight parades, seven of them on Rua XV de Novembro, plus a German dance festival, a royalty contest and German games.
Blumenau is not alone. According to Guia da Cerveja, the 41st Oktoberfest in Santa Cruz do Sul (RS) runs from October 8 to 25 and projects 420,000 visitors, and the 37th in Igrejinha (RS) takes place from the 9th to the 18th. São Paulo's, at Ibirapuera, ends this Sunday, the 4th. The last day in Blumenau and Santa Cruz falls on October 25, the date of a possible election runoff; Santa Cruz's organizers said they will follow the Electoral Court's guidance, according to Guia da Cerveja.
