What's the best whisky under R$ 200? One for every taste
Seven profiles, seven bottles: for sipping neat, highball, smoky, a gift, bourbon, Irish and the most affordable

Seven profiles, seven bottles: for sipping neat, highball, smoky, a gift, bourbon, Irish and the most affordable
With R$ 200 you can take home a gold-medal 12-year-old Scotch, a 50.5% bourbon or a smoky blend with Islay malt. The useful question is not which is best, but which is best for what you want to do with it. So we set out seven buyer profiles and chose one bottle for each, from among the whiskies in the Bebidário catalog with prices at the big stores.
Only whiskies whose entire price range, for the 700 or 750 ml bottle, stays within R$ 200 in the Sept/2026 survey were included. That is why Johnnie Walker Black Label, which ranges from R$ 144.90 to R$ 239.90, was left out. The only exception is White Horse, which was only in stock in a 1 L bottle and even so costs less than R$ 100. For each profile, we weighed the technical sheet (type, age, serve the brand suggests), the pyramid and the catalog flavor profile and, as a tiebreaker, medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) and the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) from 2023 to 2026, checked against the competitions' official results.
Old Parr 12 Anos has the strongest record in this price range in the competitions we consulted: Double Gold and Best in Show at the SFWSC 2024 and Double Gold again in 2025. It is a 12-year-old blend based on Cragganmore and Glendullan malts, and the pyramid goes from vanilla, honey and almond to nuts, grapefruit and smoke, with orange peel and pepper on the finish. Diageo recommends drinking it neat or with a little water, which is the way to taste those layers.
Red Label combines up to 35 malt and grain whiskies, among them those from Cardhu and Caol Ila, and Diageo Brasil itself recommends it for long drinks, such as the Red Highball. According to the producer, it has cinnamon and pepper at the start, pear and green apple on the palate and vanilla and smoke on the finish; in the catalog profile it is one of the driest, with sweetness of 2.5 out of 10. It took silver at the IWSC 2023. It is at four of the five stores in the survey, which makes it easy to find.
White Horse was born linked to the Lagavulin distillery, on the island of Islay, and Lagavulin malt remains in the blend; Diageo says it has one of the highest malt proportions among Scotch whiskies. The pyramid shows peat, vanilla and malt at the start and wood, peat, smoke and honey on the palate. It took silver at the SFWSC 2026 and bronze at the IWSC 2026. It is sold only in a 1 L bottle at the stores surveyed; the brand recommends drinking it neat, on the rocks or in drinks.
Buchanan's Deluxe 12 Anos has an age statement, recent medals and sits at the top of the range: Double Gold at the SFWSC 2025 and gold at the IWSC 2024. It is a blend of at least 12 years with Dalwhinnie malt among its components. The pyramid shows dark chocolate and cereal, orange peel at the start and smoke on the finish. The brand suggests serving it on the rocks or with soda water and a strip of orange peel.
Wild Turkey 101 is the bourbon with the best recent result in the range: gold at the SFWSC 2026. It ages 6 to 8 years in American oak with the deepest char, and the pyramid shows the sweet side of bourbon, with vanilla, toffee, butter and caramel, as well as cinnamon, pepper and tobacco. Mind the strength, 50.5%: the brand suggests drinking it on the rocks or in an Old Fashioned.
Jameson is triple distilled with malt dried without peat, and the pyramid stays with cereal, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and a buttery finish. It took gold at the SFWSC 2024 and at the New York World Spirits Competition 2025, from the same organizer. It is the choice for anyone who wants a whisky with no smoke at all. The price varies quite a bit among the four stores that sell it, so it pays to compare.
Black & White is the cheapest with a recent gold among the whiskies in our price survey: Double Gold at the SFWSC 2024, and silver in 2026. The blend contains 35 malts and grain whiskies, according to Diageo. The pyramid shows toffee, honey, ginger and cinnamon at the start and apple, clove and honey on the finish. The house suggests 50 ml on the rocks, in a rocks glass. The 700 ml bottle was only at one of the stores; the liter appears at three.
The ranges are shelf prices surveyed on 09/24/2026 at the online stores of Divvino, Zona Sul, Bistek, Savegnago and Giassi, for the bottle indicated on the card. When only one store had the product in stock, the range is a single value. Prices change over time and from store to store: check before buying.
Whisky is a strong drink: pour small measures, drink responsibly and, if you are driving, don't drink.
